- Earlier this week The Chronicle of Higher Education published "An Open Letter to New Graduate Students."
- If money is an issue, and it usually is in this economy, you may want to examine if graduate school is worth the cost.
- You could always make grad school worth the cost -- just get creative like Jorge Cham, creator of the online comic strip Ph.D. Comic.
- This is too cool -- grad student aquanauts (yes, aquanauts) living on the ocean floor in the name of research.
- Is there anything grad students can't do? Read about this group of students from Alabama working on a cold case murder mystery.
- And since it's Friday, let's have some fun. Check out the "Honest Graduate School Exams" from College Humor, and this video that has nothing to do with grad school but is hilarious.

There is a traffic jam in China on the Beijing-Tibet Expressway that has lasted NINE DAYS. It stretches over 60 km. That local traffic reporter's job has never been easier. I think they should reconsider calling it an "expressway." Let's check out the latest grad school news:
- Ask and you shall receive. Here is a great article on stuff most students never ask about grad school
- Feeling like a neglected grad student? Maybe you should have gone to the University of Kentucky, they know grad students need love too.

Studies have shown that fears of Friday the 13th are unwarranted. Only one thing is truly guaranteed on Friday the 13th -- some rowdy coeds are at a cabin in the woods near a lake, and they're about to have their make-out party rudely interrupted by a dude in a hockey mask. True story. Lets check out what's new:
- Ultrinsic knows that money is a great motivational tool -- the website lets students gamble on their own grades! I bet now your thinking about going back to finish those last few credits...
- Ph.D Comics serves up some more grad school humor -- does this look familiar?
- Speaking of humor, I highly suggest that any and all grad students check out Adam Ruben's book, "Surviving Your Stupid, Stupid Decision to go to Grad School."

I enjoy Shark Week, but it's getting played out. In an effort to keep it fresh, they had a show with some guy explaining how to survive a shark attack -- when you're bleeding, and alone in deep tropical waters. Call me crazy, but I changed the channel. I think I take enough preventative measures in daily life to avoid ever being in that situation. Let's check out the latest grad school news:
- Maybe they should try Alligator Week? It could be a huge hit -- with everyone except this LSU grad student that was attacked by an alligator while conducting research!
- Guess which member of the Bush Administration is teaching at the Stanford Graduate School of Business...
- It can be difficult finding a work-life balance in grad school. The Neurotic Physiology blog offers some honest advice, inspired by a similar article from the Southern Friend Scientist blog.

Chelsea Clinton is all over the news because she just got married. Did you know she went to graduate school at Columbia University? She got her master's degree in public health -- which I find ironic considering most of the public is sick of hearing about her wedding. Lets check out the latest grad school news.
- It's always best to get advice from people that have experience -- check out this great advice about grad school from a recent graduate.
- Learn more about the summer program at Princeton where mentors help prepare incoming graduate students for the rigors of grad school.
