I need advice on what to do. I've just completed my 4th year as a graduate student in microbial ecology, but I have nothing to show for it and I feel like a failure and not sure if I should continue.

Specific details: Its hard for me to come up with my own ideas right now and my advisor is the type not to give you ideas. I'm afraid if I quit, I have no idea what I'm going to do then.
